
Extra virgin olive oil may prevent Alzheimer’s disease

It means that our olive oil we are offering to our friends is not only delicious, but also beneficial for our health if you do not abuse about fish and chips. A recent study by the Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies (IMDEA) highlighted a new and unexpected benefit to the virgin extra olive oil: the possible prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. Spanish Daily La Tribuna de Toledo explained this research, which was presented by Dr. Emma Burgos, from IMDEA, within the framework of the recent World Week of the Brain, held in Toledo.
According to the scientists, olive oil components includes molecules called “polyphenols” that are believed to delay the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Currently the scientific work is in phase of laboratory research. However, it is important to emphasize that these “polyphenols” are found especially in extra virgin olive oil, and not in other refined oils, since these particles disappear the more processed and transformed the product is.
