The 2018 Harvest: High quality, despite the Drought
Alfredo and his family spent a warm time in Godall, during last Xmas season. He just went with Victor and other friends of us to complete the first stage of our yearly harvest.
They found a very windy weather (see here: http://bit.ly/2B5yU13) and because of this, they found wonderful skies, plenty of colour and light, worthy remembering.
By the time they finished this “Xmas” phase of the harvest, they managed to carry some 12.376 kg of olives to the Godall local mill. These have produced an interesting 24,71% yield, that is: 3.058 kg of top-quality olive oil.
As we told you some time ago, the harvesting of olive trees is based upon a 2-year cycle, where the first is very productive and the following is scarcer. Following this logic, we expected this year to be more productive, but that was not possible due to the severe drought we are experiencing over the last months. However, we need to wait until the campaign is totally completed by March.
Well, that is not the end of the world. As a matter of fact, we like to see things positively. And, of course, the good side of this harvest is that we have wonderful quality olives, with a low acidity. Besides, these olives are picked directly from the trees, not from the ground, meaning that we have still better flavour and properties.
We expect to be able to offer our wonderful oils: Morruda, Extra-Virgin and D.O.P, this year. We will keep you informed. In the meanwhile, feel free to visit our Facebook page and see a pictorial gallery we took about the Xmas harvest: http://bit.ly/2mJWdco
